Lady Mariners fall in volleyball final

CASTINE — The Lady Mariners of Maine Maritime Academy fell 3-0 to the Colby-Sawyer College Chargers in the finals of the North Atlantic Conference volleyball championship on Saturday in New London, N.H.

It was the third straight NAC title for the Chargers, who downed the Lady Mariners by game scores of 25-14, 25-19 and 25-13.


MMA and Colby-Sawyer battled for 110 scoreless minutes before the Charges prevailed in a 4-3 shootout to best the Mariners in an NAC men’s soccer semifinal on Wednesday, Nov. 6, in Castine.

Nicholas George, Bryan Soucy and Matt Leblanc each netted shots for the Mariners in the shootout.


MMA’s Mariners led the Engineers of MIT in total offensive yards 497-448 and first downs 33-24 on Saturday in Cambridge, Mass.

But the Engineers led where it counted — on the scoreboard — as the downed the visiting Mariners 56-36.

The 1-7 Mariners will wrap up the season on Saturday when they host Curry College at noon in Castine.
