ELLSWORTH — The 2018 Woodlawn Invitational Tournament was held June 14-17 with 12 players competiting for the coveted Chapman/Gould Memorial Trophy, and local participants were the top competitors.
In the first flight at, which was played on Tina Hinckley’s court in Southwest Harbor, Mount Desert’s Randall McAndrews claimed the title. McAndrews edged out Fred Beck of Brooksville and Tim McCormick of Ellsworth to earn the win.
In the championship flight at the Woodlawn Museum’s croquet court, Perry Mattson of Surry edged Don Parker of Hancock on the final day to claim first place. Bob Worrell of Sorrento and Omaha, Neb., claimed third place.
Tournament festivities got under way June 13 with a reception and dinner catered by Chipper’s Restaurant. Block play June 14-15 helped determine seedings for the knockout tournament June 16, and the championship rounds were conducted the following afternoon.
