Local baseball, softball players earn All-PVC honors



ELLSWORTH — Local players were among those named to the All-Penobscot Valley Conference baseball and softball teams in Class B last week.

Ellsworth juniors Matt Burnett, Conner Wagstaff and Jackson Curtis were named to the baseball first team, and Mount Desert Island seniors Matt Perconti and Alden Fournier joined them. Seniors Brad Smith of Ellsworth and Nick Stanley of MDI were second-team selections.

For Ellsworth, Burnett was named PVC Pitcher of the Year and Player of the Year. Burnett was 7-0 with a 1.46 ERA and 60 strikeouts in the in the regular season.

In softball, MDI senior Maddie Thornton was named to the first team. Junior Lindsey McEachern was named to the second team for MDI along with Ellsworth senior Hannah Sargent.

Ellsworth’s Smith, Chris Barnes, Austin Baron, Sam Giffin, Jared Hamilton, Sam Horne, and Christian Bosse were named to the All-Academic team in baseball. MDI’s Fournier, Perconti, Stanley, Stanley Grierson and James McConomy were also named All-Academic selections.

Sargent, Katelynn Bagley, Emily Hart and Mariah Young were named All-Academic selections for Ellsworth softball.
