Local athletes compete at NE track championships

ELLSWORTH — Athletes from Mount Desert Island, Sumner, Bucksport and George Stevens Academy competed June 11 at the 75th New England Interscholastic Track & Field Championship Meet in New Britain, Conn.

Bucksport’s Natasha Monreal placed fourth in the girls’ triple jump and 17th in the long jump. George Stevens Academy’s Thea Crowley, who was seeded 11th, took 10 seconds off her time to finish in fifth place in the 3,200-meter run. First and third spots also went to runners from the Penobscot Valley Conference. Somers’ Rachel St. Germain placed first and Megan Randall of Bangor was in third place in the 3,200-meter run.

MDI’s Miles Burr placed 13th in the boys’ 200-meter dash. Sumner’s Kaleb Colson was 27th in the 800-meter run and 24th in the 1,600-meter run.

Sumner’s Ada Fisher placed 21st in the 300-meter hurdles. Bucksport’s Colin Simpson was 16th in the boys’ long jump while William Hileman was 27th in the 3,200-meter run.

Girls’ relay teams from Bucksport and MDI also placed in the top 25. For Bucksport, Carly Mchale, Angelina Cotoni, Monreal and Johanna Stiles were 24th in the 4×100 meter relay. In the 4×800 meter relay, MDI’s Grace Munger, Sophia Taylor, AyliGrace Munro and Amelia Vandongen came in 19th.

Maranda Pert of GSA was 26th in the girls’ discus throw.
