Lady Mariners Split with Lyndon State

The Lady Mariners ended their season on a good note taking the second game of a double header on Sunday beating Lyndon State College 10-1 after losing the first game 12-3 in North Atlantic Conference action. MMA ends their season at 4-20 while Lyndon finished their regular season at 8-18.

In game one, Lyndon State exploded for seven runs in the third inning, and proceeded to cruise to the 12-3 victory over the Lady Mariners. Pitcher Sara Fetterhoff (Jay, ME) kept the MMA batters off balance collecting nine strikeouts over six frames.

Nicole Poland (Damariscotta, ME) collected two hits and an RBI for MMA while Dana Houghton (Lee, ME) led the team with two RBI’s. Mallery Stanley (Standish, ME) took the loss for MMA giving up 17 hits over her six innings of work.

In the second game, MMA jumped on Hornets pitcher Theresa Danforth (Corinth, VT) for six hits and five runs with the first seven batters taking a commanding 5-1 lead after the first inning of play. Danforth didn’t retire an MMA batter and was replaced by Fetterhoff who finished the game. Ashley Hunt (Waldoboro, ME) led the offensive attack with two hits and four RBI’s in the 10-1 win.

MMA collected 15 hits, getting three from Megan Russell (Peru, ME) and Mallery Stanley. Kayla Higgins (Sullivan, ME) went 2 for 2 with two RBI’s and two runs scored in the win. Stanley got the win, throwing just 64 pitches over five innings of work, surrendering five hits and three walks.
