Hancock County soccer, volleyball players named PVC All-Star selections



ELLSWORTH — The Penobscot Valley Conference announced its All-Star teams for the 2017 soccer and volleyball seasons Wednesday, and Hancock County athletes were among the many players selected.

Ellsworth’s Jared Hamilton was named a first-team selection for the boys’ team, and Jack Lee and Sam Giffin received second-team and honorable mention selections, respectively. For the girls, Kiona Osterlin earned first-team honors.

MDI top scorers Owen Mild and Daisy Granholm were also named first-team selections. Jose Chumbe and Adriana Novella were named second-teamers, and Saige Goodwin received honorable mention on the girls’ side.

In volleyball, Ellsworth’s Olivia Robidoux and MDI’s Mackenzie Hanna were named among the six first-team players. On the second team, Ellsworth’s Shelby Cote, MDI’s Julia Watras and Sumner’s Andrea Knapp gave Hancock County three of six overall selections.

Local schools also produced a number of All-Academic selections. Hamilton, Brad Smith, Dylan Taplin, Arthur Jodrey, Zach Harris, Sam Horne, Peyton Cole, Chris Barnes, Michael Mutlu, Andrew McCullough and Sam Giffin gave Ellsworth boys’ soccer the most of any team.
