ELLSWORTH — Fall sports practices began Monday morning as high schools in Hancock County and the rest of Maine were eligible to begin their preparations for the upcoming season.
In Ellsworth, Mount Desert Island and Bucksport, football players began with the morning sessions of their two-a-day practices. Teams from George Stevens Academy, Sumner and Deer Isle-Stonington began later in the day.
Teams are eligible to hold their first official games and meets Aug. 31 with the exception of golf, which can do so one week earlier. Teams can hold their first exhibition matches tomorrow, Aug. 17.
