Eagles Sweep Vikings

ELLSWORTH — Stellar complete game pitching performances by righthanders Pat Kelley and John Carlin gave the Eagles a doubleheader sweep over the Caribou Vikings on Saturday.

In the 6-3 opener, Kelley scattered just four hits in his first complete game outing of the season.

The Eagles snapped a 1-1 tie with five runs in the fourth inning on three walks, a two-run triple by Mickey Manning, RBI singles by Jordan Carter and Ross Saunders and a Caribou error.

Caribou managed a pair of runs in the top of the fifth when Chad McCarthy and Brandon Caverhill both singled and scored when Ted Walker lined a drive that deflected off Kelley for a single.

In the 7-0 second game shutout, the Eagles staked Carlin to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and he never faltered, allowing just two hits and getting solid defensive support including three double plays.

Manning had a two-run single in the first inning, and an RBI single in the second.

Dakota Jewett also doubled and singled for Ellsworth.
