ELLSWORTH — The Down East Family YMCA swim team placed fifth at the Maine Swimming Inc. Junior Olympic championship over the weekend at Bowdoin College in Brunswick.
Forty-six swimmers represented DEFY, which was one of 26 teams from across the state that competed in the meet from Thursday to Sunday. All swimmers had to meet qualifying times to compete.
The Long Reach Swim Club of the Bath YMCA took first.
DEFY’s Kristy Barry, age 12, was the girls’ 11-12 high-point scorer for the meet.
DEFY also broke 11 team records:
50-yard butterfly: Ella Montgomery, 8, in 34.98.
200-yard backstroke: Kristy Barry, 12, in 2:25.35.
200-yard freestyle: Hannah Wood, 16, in 1:58.75.
500-yard freestyle: Ava Sealander, 15, in 5:21.07.
200-yard breaststroke: Sam Pelletier, 14, in 2:19.28.
Age 10 and under girls’ 400-yard freestyle relay: Kiera Springer, Darra O’Connell, Leah MacPherson and Sophia Herrington in 5:16.77.
Senior girls’ 200-yard freestyle relay: Hannah Wood, Sidney Hamilton, Ellie Clarke and Ava Sealander in 1:43.84.
Senior girls’ 400-yard freestyle relay: Ava Sealander, Sidney Hamilton, Ellie Clarke and Hannah Wood in 3:48.63.
Senior girls’ 400-yard medley relay: Hannah Wood, Sidney Hamilton, Ava Sealander, Ellie Clarke in 4:12.07.
Senior boys’ 400-yard freestyle: Cooper Holmes, Sam Alvarado, Camden Holmes and Talor Hamilton in 3:16.87.
Senior boys’ 400-yard medley relay: Talor Hamilton, Cooper Holmes, Maks Grover and Camden Holmes in 3:34.42.
