Ingredients
  • cups applesauce
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ tsp. ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ¼ tsp. sea salt or kosher salt
  • 2 tsps. lemon juice (optional)
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1 9-inch pie crust

Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Taste the applesauce for sweetness before mixing in other ingredients. If it is not presweetened, you may need to add an extra ¼ cup of sugar to the filling. Lemon juice will perk up the flavor of bland or cold-storage apples.
  2. Mix the applesauce and sugar together well. Then stir in the rest of the ingredients and pour into the prepared pie shell. Bake at 425 degrees F for 15 minutes. Turn the pie back to front and reduce the temperature to 350 degrees F. Bake for another 35 to 40 minutes or until the center of the filling no longer sloshes when nudged (a slight wiggle is fine).
