The voters’ choice

Dear Editor:

Maine voters, when voting in the upcoming November election for their United States senator, will be able to choose between:

  • A lifelong citizen of Maine, born and raised in Caribou, Susan Collins, who has represented our state for the past 24 years in the United States Senate and is the 12th most senior senator in the entire Senate.
  • A 2004 arrival in Freeport, born and raised in East Greenwich, R.I., during the first 33 years of her life. Sara Gideon, who has never represented our state in the United States Senate, will, if elected, be the most junior person in the Senate and therefore have very little ability to influence legislation.
