Sending the wrong message

Dear Editor:

As epidemiologists are calling for a third peak of pandemic infections and public health experts fear gatherings of families and friends could make an already bad situation worse, I was alarmed that as cases are increasing in Maine and we are heading to the worst phase of the COVID pandemic the city of Ellsworth is planning a possible super-spreader event, the annual Christmas parade, Dec. 5.

The city is sending the wrong message, in my opinion, and despite that they are making changes and saying mask-wearing is required, the reality is social distancing will be impossible. As we have seen at local political rallies, masks will not be worn by everybody.

For us to get through this terrible time, sacrifices need to be made, and if we are unwilling to change our behavior we will only prolong the danger to our families and the economy.
