Politics before assistance

Dear Editor:

It is with sadness that I read about Sheriff Kane’s termination of Healthy Acadia’s program of recovery coaching for the inmates of the Hancock County Jail. According to the Jan. 28 article, Kane was quoted as terminating the contract on account of “philosophical differences.” I believe that Mr. Kane is bound by his duties to do the best for all people under his jurisdiction. If he chooses to terminate services to the folks he is sworn in to oversee based on sound bites, he is misguided and acting wrongly.
