Kudos to Collins on Arctic drilling vote

Dear Editor:

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is a national treasure that we should not drill. Last week the Senate voted to allow drilling for oil in the refuge, harming polar bears, wolves, muskoxen and nearly 200 species of migratory birds that migrate to all 50 states, including the Least sandpipers. We deserve a clean environment and have a responsibility to protect animals from oil spills that would injure and kill off populations of wildlife.

We need Congress to protect the Arctic from drilling. We need to keep our public lands out of the hands of corporate polluters and other special interests so that current and future generations are able to enjoy these lands. Sen. Collins has demonstrated her commitment to protecting our special places by voting against Arctic drilling; thank you, Senator. Mainers know we can count on our senators to keep our environment clean and safe for future generations.
