Facebook is not journalism

Dear Editor:

I was dismayed and disheartened to see that two of the four responses to The Ellsworth American’s question “Where do you get your news?” were “Facebook.”

Fifty percent of the respondents in this small sample admit to getting their news from a source known to be full of misinformation and opinionated stories! One’s Facebook friends pre-select stories that match their own biases and prejudices and share them with others with similar views. Facebook lacks balanced reporting on a topic, a full picture, a comprehensive presentation of information.
Facebook is not journalism.
