Clark for Commission

Dear Editor:

With Election Day less than a month away, I feel it is necessary to share my thoughts and ask you to support William “Bill” Clark for re-election as the Hancock County commissioner for District 1. Bill is currently the chairman of the County Commissioners and finishing his fourth year as county commissioner. Bill has been a longtime public servant starting as a police officer with the Ellsworth Police Department then as sheriff from 1981-2014. After retiring as sheriff, he was elected county commissioner and has served since 2017.

Bill is the type of leader that we need as commissioner during these difficult times. During his time as sheriff, he was able to build a law enforcement division that was known around the state as skilled and professional. Bill was a driving force and leader in the construction of the current jail as the old one was outdated and dangerous for both staff and inmates. For many years Bill and his chief oversaw the running of the dispatch center which is now the Regional Communications Center (RCC). Bill, along with other law enforcement in Hancock County, formed the Downeast Drug Task Force to investigate drug trafficking in the county.

As commissioner, Bill was instrumental to the RCC being renovated and brought up the current level where it serves three police departments, 27 fire departments and two ambulance services. Bill has supported a project for the Sheriff’s Office to supply security at the Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport. Without this security, commercial flights would not be allowed to leave or arrive at the airport.

I worked for Bill Clark for over 20 years and watched him dedicate himself to making things better for the citizens of Hancock County. We did not always agree on everything, but since his election as commissioner, I have been able to work closely with him and respect his knowledge and professional manner in which he studies and evaluates each request and situation before making a decision.

Vote for proven results and experience. I ask that you cast your vote for county commissioner District 1 for William “Bill” Clark on Nov. 3.
