Article a breath of fresh air

Dear Editor:

I would like to thank The Ellsworth American for the wonderful article in last week’s paper about the Waltham-Eastbrook turkey shoots. It is very unusual and pleasing to see a newspaper story in today’s world featuring shooting sports and gun safety. Your article brings up some great points about teaching gun safety to youngsters and the good family time had at these shoots. I have been a participant at turkey shoots for over 50 years and can say that the Waltham-Eastbrook shoot is one of the best organized, with extreme importance put on safety.

There are shooters from 8-80 who all have fun. It gives much satisfaction to see the face of a youngster who has just bested 10-20 other shooters and shows the target to his or her parents. Guns and shooting are not bad things, but radicals, mentally deranged and just plain bad people can make it look that way.
