Join the clean-up team

Dear Editor:

Spring is in the air, and so is the trash that has been hidden in snow. It is collecting along the roads and river. The time is now for the Fifth Annual Ellsworth Roadside Clean-up!

The Roadside Clean-up takes place all week, April 23-May 1, and it works like this: You obtain a yellow trash bag from the City Hall foyer. Collect trash along the roadside, in parks, on fields. When you’re done, call the Department of Public Works at 667-2133. Let them know where you left the yellow bag and they will pick it up!

Even better, join us on Saturday, April 23, at City Hall, starting at 10 a.m. We’ll have yellow bags and a sign-in sheet for designated roadside areas (also coffee and snacks.) While picking up trash, take photos. We’ll have a prize for the weirdest piece of trash that was found. Return to City Hall by 3 p.m. to return your vest. For more information, call Mark at 664-0928.

April 23 is the same day as the Card Brook Clean-up. We hope that with more people involved we’ll clean up a lot of the city. It’s a group effort and it’s fun. This spring and summer, it will be nice to see the river and parks without trash.
