ELLSWORTH — Vaughn Milliken, 70, passed away peacefully with his family and hospice by his side on Sept. 16, 2015, at Courtland Rehabilitation & Living in Ellsworth. He was born Dec. 17, 1944, in Ellsworth, to father Edwin L. Milliken and mother Elsie Thompson Milliken.
Vaughn served in the U.S. Air Force from 1963-1967 and in that time served his country in Vietnam in the 555th Civil Engineering Division. He served as a member and past commander of the American Legion Post in Blue Hill and was also a member of the VFW. Vaughn was assistant Boy Scout master in Blue Hill while his son Gary was in Scouts.
Vaughn loved his country music, watching NASCAR racing and the outdoors, but most of all loved spending time with his family.
A quote from his daughter-in-law Venus Milliken the night before he passed: “I wanted you to know you are the greatest father-in-law anyone could have ever asked for,” and he turned around to her with those beautiful blue eyes of his and said, “I love you, too, dear.”
Vaughn is survived by his former wife of 23 years and loving mother of his children, Lucretia Milliken of Blue Hill; son Gary Milliken and his wife, Venus, of Blue Hill; son Jason Milliken of Ellsworth, and granddaughter Ariel Milliken of Surry; sister Elene Bara of Burlington, Vt., along with her daughters Denise and Lisa, son John and all their children.
Vaughn is predeceased by his father Edwin L. Milliken, mother Elsie Thompson Milliken and brother George Milliken.
A celebration of his life and military service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, at 3 p.m. at the Blue Hill Town Park. Everyone is welcome to attend.
