Retired U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer-4 Tracy Hoyt Young, 95, died a natural death at home on June 29, 2020. He was born Nov. 30, 1924, in Gouldsboro, the son of Harold Francis Young and Henrietta Havey (Tracy) Young.
Following high school, he enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in the Pacific theater until the end of World War II. Afterward, he returned to Maine and married Frances E. King, the daughter of Percy D. King and Eva (Stevens) King.
Tracy re-enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean conflict, where he was awarded the Silver Star medal for heroism. Additionally, he served two tours during the Vietnam conflict. His distinguished military career ended in 1977 after 32 years of service. After retiring, he and Frances returned to Maine and built a home in Gouldsboro near family and friends. During retirement, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors observing the wildlife.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Frances, his sister, Eleanor Moore, and brothers, Harold Jr. and Allen. Surviving are his sons, Retired U.S. Army Col. Wayne Young and wife, Debi, from Bel Air, Md; and Daniel Young and wife, Melanie, from Wetumpka, Ala.; also, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He will be best remembered for his love of country, family and friends.
A private graveside service with military honors will be held for the family at West Bay Cemetery, Gouldsboro.
