BAR HARBOR — Theodore “Teddy” Redgate, 92, died Sept. 18, 2012, at his residence in Bar Harbor. He was born June 11, 1920, in Yonkers, N.Y., the son of Carl and Mildred Redgate.
Ted graduated from Gorton High School, Class of 1938. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in May 1942, serving on the minesweeper USS YMS-35 and then on the USS Cache, surviving a torpedo attack in the South Pacific in January 1944. He married his “Jersey Girl” sweetheart, Eleanor D. Belting, and settled in Brielle, N.J., where they resided for over 50 years. He was a longstanding member of the Manasquan United Methodist Church. Ted loved sailing as a boy on the Hudson River and later on Barnegat Bay.
He is survived by his brother, Dr. Edward Redgate of Bar Harbor; two nephews, Steven L. Redgate of Bar Harbor and Daniel O. Redgate of Williamsburg, Va.; a niece, Catherine W. Riley of Sterling, Va.
