Sharon (McGown) Williams of Franklin passed away after a very brief illness on Oct. 7, 2021, surrounded by her family. Sharon was born in Lewiston to Reginald and Ruth (Blood) McGown and raised by her stepmother Dorothy after her mother’s sudden passing.
Sharon graduated from Biddeford High School in 1959 then went to work for New England Telephone for several years. She met and married Lloyd in 1965 and they had two children, Michael and Elizabeth.
When the kids were young, Sharon worked part time managing the Ellsworth Meals on Wheels program. When the kids were older, she worked at Sears in the custom draperies department for more than 10 years. In 2000, Sharon and Lloyd moved to Franklin to be closer to her in-laws, Erma and David Williams.
While in Franklin, Sharon was a tireless volunteer for the Eastern Area Agency on Aging’s meal program at Pine Brook Senior Center. Sharon was an exceptional cook and hostess, a loyal and steadfast friend but most of all a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lloyd Williams; her daughter Elizabeth Anderson of Hull, Mass.; grandsons Jack Anderson, Benjamin, Brandon, Jacob and Hunter Williams and great-granddaughter BraeLynn Williams. Sharon was predeceased by her son Michael, to cancer in July 2020.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Oct. 16, at Bayview Cemetery in Franklin at 12:30 p.m. A reception will follow at the Franklin Veterans Club. Masks will be required for all in Sharon’s honor.
