MOUNT DESERT — Samuel A. Blanchard, 83, died Dec. 23, 2009 at a Florida hospital. He was born March 19, 1926 in Columbia, Maine, the son of Logan and Abbie (Lawrence) Blanchard.
Samuel was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the European Theater. He was captain of the vessel Seal for 60 years and enjoyed fishing. When he wasn’t working on his boat, he was a mechanic at DeRever’s Garage in Seal Harbor. Samuel was an avid gardener. He was a former member of the Seal Harbor Fire Department and was harbormaster for many years. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ida Blanchard; two sons, Samuel W. Blanchard and his wife Martha, and Philip W. Blanchard, all of Seal Harbor; two grandchildren, Josh Blanchard of New York and Zachariah and his wife Vanessa of Portland; one great-grand child, Vincent; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at Seal Harbor Cemetery with Rev. William M. Bigelow officiating.
