Ruth Norma (Jordan) Coombs

OBIT-CoombsTRENTON — Ruth Norma (Jordan) Coombs, of Trenton, passed away on the morning of May 7, 2015.

Ruth was a graduate of Ellsworth High School, Class of 1950, and a graduate of EMGH School of Nursing, Class of 1953. She was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener.

She had an over-20-year career working at S.R. Tracy’s Paint shop in Northeast Harbor, where she earned a reputation for her eye for detail and took great pride in her ability to match paints by eye.

In addition to her career, she was always one to join into any project that the family was doing, wielding a hammer or a brush long into her 60s to lend a hand and much needed guidance.

After her long career, Ruth made the most of her later years, traveling with family, taking bus tours with her longtime friend Gloria Bowers, attending weekly dances at Jordan’s Snack Bar and the Ellsworth VFW Hall, going to breakfast at Sylvia’s Cafe and attending various church suppers in the area.

Ruth was born on Dec. 28, 1931, to Hallet and Geneva (Dunton) Jordan in Ellsworth. She was one of seven siblings. She is survived by Fred Jordan of Aurora, Colo. She was predeceased by her sisters, Kay Walker, Bertha Lord, Dorothy Wright, and by her brothers, Roy Jordan, and Hallet (Bussy) Jordan Jr.

Ruth had three children; Roy H. Coombs Sr., of Trenton; Terese C. Haynes, of Gainesville, Fla.; and Harold F. Coombs III of Trenton. She was grandmother of six and a great-grandmother of 12. It was her wish that there be no service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Jackson Lab Employee Fund.
