ELLSWORTH — Rita Yvonne Bradford, 77, peacefully passed away July 31, 2013, at the Ellsworth home of her sister, Rose Weglinski, with whom she had lived and been lovingly cared for the past nine years. Rita was born as Rita Audet in Caribou, Aug. 23, 1935, to Louis and Cecile Audet.
She married in 1955 and moved to Dutchess County soon after. She enjoyed doing home improvement projects, entertaining at home and volunteering in the local community. She also managed a dental practice for many years. Rita spent most of her life in Dutchess County, raising her family in New Hamburg, and then Wappingers Falls. Neighborhood children affectionately called her “Ma,” as she was always willing to add other kids to lunch and dinner times, and administer first aid to their bumps, scratches and bruises.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Richard Bradford; and her siblings, Alice Moore, Eugene Audet and Marie Montecalvo. Surviving are her brothers, Philip, Louis and Wilfred “Willy”; and sisters, Rose, Lillian and Nora. Rita is lovingly remembered by her eight children, Terry, Gary, Laura, Jennie, Janice, Cynthia, Denise and Ronald “Jake”; 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
All of her loved ones wish to thank Ida Page, director of Robert and Mary’s Place, and her caring staff. Ida became a special person late in Rita’s life. She and her staff offered love, care and support beyond the scope of any expectation.
There will be a remembrance and celebration of life for family and close friends on Rita’s birth date Aug. 23, 2013, at 21 No. Union River Road, Mariaville. Please contact Rose Weglinski (207) 667-7331 if you wish to attend. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Ellsworth at 8:10 a.m. Aug. 26. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Rita’s name may be made to Robert & Mary’s Place. P.O. Box 1533, Ellsworth, ME 04605.
