Rickie Paul Sandstrom, 68, passed away from complications of pneumonia on Aug. 15, 2018, at Eastern Maine Medical Center with family by his side.
Rick was born July 20, 1950, in Bangor to Ruth Whalen and Andrew Sandstrom. His childhood years were spent in Orland.
He fought for his country, serving two tours in Vietnam for the United States Army. After returning to the United States he was honorably discharged and resumed civilian life.
Rick’s greatest love in life was his children. He enjoyed spending time with family, friends and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was very funny, and he had a smile for days. He enjoyed camping at the Blue Hill Fair at his favorite campsite, being outdoors, and music also made his heart full.
Rick impacted so many lives. After his motorcycle accident in 2011, he faced some of the greatest challenges of his life head-on and with a big heart full of bravery. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
He was predeceased by his mother, Ruth Mae Kronstrand, his father, Andrew Paul Sandstrom, daughter Jennifer Lynn Sandstrom, grandson Joshua Soplata and nephew Alex Harris.
Rick is survived by his children: Stephanie Dorr of Florida, Andrew Sandstrom of Gouldsboro, Celeste Sandstrom and Scott Michaud of Hancock, Carrie and husband, Billy Bob Faulkingham, of Winter Harbor, Jared Sandstrom and Katrina Hayward of Gouldsboro, Haley and husband, Joe Bennett, of Sorrento and Caleb Sandstrom of Franklin. Grandchildren: Andrew, Robin, Carter, Harper, Abigail, Ashley, Brooke, Jacob, Christopher, Falicia, Zachariah, Patrick and Makayla. Siblings: Carol Merrill, Omar Whalen and Chuck Berry. Also special to him: Meredith Sandstrom, Mike Harris, “Boo” Whalen, Audrey Whalen, Christine Gray, Ashleigh Gerrish and daughters Kayleigh and Mackenzie, Mark and George.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be at the end of the month, date time and location to be announced by the family.
