Phillip R. French Sr.

TRENTON — Phillip R. French Sr., 77, of Trenton died Oct. 18, 2013, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. He was born May 18, 1936, in Eastbrook, the son of Decatur and Nina (Page) French.

Phillip grew up in Eastbrook. He graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1953. In the fall of 1953, he joined the United States Air Force. He was stationed in England for 37 months. He separated from the Air Force in 1957. Phillip was married to his first wife and mother of his children, Sandra J. French. On Aug. 3, 1974, Phillip and Florence Frost were married. They were married for 39 years. He was a member of the American Legion and the Trenton Baptist Church. He worked at the Bucksport Mill and retired after 32 years. He enjoyed the Red Sox, being outdoors working in his garage and loved spending time with his family.

Phillip is survived by his wife, Florence; children, Cheryl French, Cathleen and husband, Jeffrey Newbegin, Phillip French Jr. and wife, Cyndi, Thomas French and partner, Lisa, and Jennifer French; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia Wilbur; brother, Ivan French; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; niece and nephew, Randall Wilbur and Sandra Bauer; many grandnieces and nephews. He was known to his grandchildren and many others as “Papa.” He was predeceased by his parents; and grandson, Christopher Cunningham.

Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23. Interment will be at Sunnyside Cemetery, Eastbrook. A reception will be held at the Eastbrook municipal building immediately following the interment.
