Philip Atwood Swett



OBIT-SwettflagSEAL HARBOR — Philip Atwood Swett, 71, passed away on Jan. 17, 2016, at his home from a form of acute leukemia. He was born June 21, 1944, in Dexter, the son of Arthur H. and Karlene L. (Banks) Swett.

Philip graduated from Newport High School in 1962. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy as a corpsman attached to the 7th Marines, 3rd Battalion, U.S. Marines, during the Vietnam War. During his service he was awarded a Purple Heart, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze star, and Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with cluster. Philip returned home to attend Husson College and received a B.S. in business management, then on to Colby College studying pre-med for two years. Philip was a member of the American Legion Post 103. He established his career as a food and beverage director of many country clubs throughout the United States until his retirement in 2006.

Philip is survived by his brother Michael A. Swett of Kissimmee, Fla.; and his sister Judith L. Swett of Seal Harbor; and many cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews and special friends, Kathy Austin and Robert Spiegel. He was much loved by his family and friends.

A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, at Abbey Chapel, Main Street, Seal Harbor, with a reception to follow downstairs for family and friends to celebrate Philip’s fun-loving life.
