Paul Whittier Waldron



TREMONT — Paul Whittier Waldron, 84, died Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, Mass. Born in Port Chester, N.Y., the son of Ruth Alden Waldron and Chauncey Whittier Waldron, Mr. Waldron grew up in Newton, Mass., and was a graduate of Newton High School and Harvard University.

 

In 1944, Mr. Waldron enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving honorably during World War II in both the European and Pacific theaters. Mr. Waldron had a long career as a professional musician, continuing to play jazz piano at numerous venues in western Massachusetts and southern Vermont until the age of 80.

He loved the Maine coast and spent time each year at his family’s home in Seal Cove, where he had many lifelong friends.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, Martha; his children Robin, Karen, Tim, Jon, and Jeff; Karen’s spouse Rich Hilliard, Tim’s spouse Kiki Waldron, Jon’s spouse Ann Dorfman, and Jeff’s spouse Cherry Lemon; his seven grandchildren – Katy, Anna, Jessica, Joni, Loren, Richard, and Naniel; his sister Mary Dutton Smith; and 12 nieces and nephews.

He also leaves a legacy of love, work, giving, and friendship. His family grieves but is grateful for his long life and peaceful passing.

A private service for immediate family will be held at Douglass Funeral Home in Amherst, Mass., with a memorial planned for early fall. Date and location of the later memorial will be available at www.paulwwaldron.com.
