Mildred “Millie” Elizabeth Hamor

ELLSWORTH — Mildred “Millie” Elizabeth Hamor, 84, died Dec. 19, 2010, at Collier’s Rehab and Nursing Home, Ellsworth. She was born Oct. 20, 1926, in Lamoine, the daughter of Arthur and Winnifred (McIntyre) Hamor.


Millie was educated in Lamoine, graduating from Ellsworth High School with honors. She took a postgraduate course at Newburyport High School qualifying her to enter the U.S. Nurses Cadet Corps. She received her RN from Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester, Mass. She was employed at Mount Desert Island Hospital, Bar Harbor, was head nurse at Westchester County Hospital in Pennsylvania and head nurse at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Ellsworth, where she retired. She was a member of the Lamoine Baptist Church for 66 years, sang in the choir, served as deacon, and was on the missionary board. She enjoyed helping with the Pioneer Girls. Millie was an avid Red Sox fan. She spent her life caring for others.

Millie leaves her brother, Harry Hamor of Hampton, Va.; his son, Paul and wife, Michelle; great-niece, Sophia; her sister, Marion McFarland and husband, Walton; nephew, Gary McFarland and wife, Deborah; niece, Jean Donovan and husband, Roland, of Lamoine; special cousin, Dottie Pride of Cape Elizabeth; special friends, Peggy Ware and husband, Al, of New Hampshire;, and many cousins.
