Merrill “Bill” Hardison, 90, passed away May 17, 2020, at a Bangor hospital after a short period of declining health. He was born in Waltham on Nov. 2, 1929, to Evellyn (Kemp) and Arthur Hardison.
Bill worked for EBS as a delivery driver, then for Petrolane Gas Co. hauling cylinders throughout New England, New York and Pennsylvania. He eventually worked his way up to plant manager at the Ellsworth location and retired after many years. Not one to sit around, he continued to deliver firewood and worked at the Bayview Cemetery in Franklin until just before his passing.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife, Alana, and his sisters Leota, Wilda, Lavern and Dora and brother Robert. Bill is survived by his daughter, Susan, his son-in-law Matt and his treasured grandson Christopher; brother Floyd and his wife, Norma; many treasured nieces and nephews and their children. He will be fondly remembered by many people both in Maine and in his winter home of Zephyrhills, Fla., including Wanda Havey, Kim Guyette and their extended family, and the Goodwin family.
Due to current health concerns, a private graveside will be held for the family, with a celebration of Bill’s life to take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to support his grandson’s charity, Sea of Blue Autism Awareness, 299 Sargeant Drive, Mount Desert, ME, 04660.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Ellsworth, where online condolences may be shared with the family at www.bragdonkelley.com.
