Maxine Braley



ELLSWORTH — Maxine Braley, 95, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at home in Clermont, Fla. She was born on Jan. 11, 1920, in Otis, to the late Frank Watts and Lora (Young) Watts. Maxine attended Otis Grammar School and graduated from Ellsworth High School. She attended Husson College. Maxine worked a summer at the University of Maine in Orono. For 35 years, she worked at Newberry’s Store in the office and as a clerk. Maxine was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church. She sang in the choir and was on the missionary board. She served as church treasurer for some time. Maxine assisted with the Awana program as a secretary and a listener coordinator; she also helped in the pioneer girls program.
Survivors include her two sons, Bruce Braley and wife, Rebecca, of Clermont, Fla., and Dale Braley and wife, Margaret of Citronelle, Ala.; five grandchildren, Michael Braley and Michelle Braley of Clermont, Fla., Mike Braley of Citronelle, Ala., Phyllis Herrick and Lorena (Herrick) Davis of London Derry, N.H.; nine great-grandchildren, Shailyn, Tylor, Noelle, Chase, Corban, John Jr., Jasmine, Tabitha and Samuel.
In addition to her parents, Maxine was predeceased by her husband, Irving Braley, and daughter, Joan (Braley) Herrick.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home in Ellsworth. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on April 30, 2015, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Ellsworth, with the Rev. Barry Blackstone officiating. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Otis. Arrangements were made by Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home in Ellsworth.
