DEER ISLE—Maurice E. Robbins passed away Aug. 22, 2009, at the Island Nursing Home after a brave battle with cancer.Maurice, known by all as “Moxie,” touched many lives, radiated warmth and love, never met a stranger and he had a joy for life and helping others. He had a gift; a unique ability to fix things, a big laugh and always had a story to share. He was the most kind-hearted and giving person you could meet.
Moxie was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Lillian Robbins. Survivors left to cherish their memories include: his sister, Lottie Robbins and her husband, Malcolm, of Rockland; his three children, Janet Jones and her husband, Nathan Jones, of Deer Isle, Richard Robbins and his wife, Elizabeth, of Deer Isle, Holly Byrd and her husband, Jim, of Sevierville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Misty Eaton and her husband, Adam, Andy Jones and his fiancee, Deandra Eaton, Natasha, Amanda and Derrick Robbins, Travis Rhodes, Allen Kennard and Jonah Byrd; two great-grandchildren, Sailor and Jarvis Eaton; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, “Smokey.”
A celebration of his life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, at the Deer Isle Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Deer Isle Fire Dept., P.O. Box 627, Deer Isle, ME 04627 or Hancock County HomeCare and Hospice, P.O. Box 156, Blue Hill, ME 04614.
