WINTERPORT — On Dec. 6, 2013, Mary Frances Deckers peacefully passed from this world to be with our Heavenly Father. Several of her children were at her side. Throughout her time at the Woodlands Assisted Living in Brewer her presence brought much joy to everyone she met. She was loved by all. Each of Fran’s 12 children enjoyed the time spent with her, the other residents and the staff. Fran was born May 13, 1929, in Alvord Iowa, to Edward J. and Mary Ann (Goldschmit) Frembgen.
Fran, who embodied the principles of compassionate love, patience and quiet assertion, together with her husband of 57 years, gave her children a noble passion for the responsibilities of family and social life. Throughout her life, and in those last personal family visits, Fran maintained her witty charm, heartwarming compassion and selflessness through life’s trials. To the end, Fran was extremely proud of her 12 children and how they were raising their children. She was a gentle soul. In 1937, Fran’s family moved from Iowa to Santa Monica, Calif., and then to South Gate, Calif., in 1941. After graduating from UCLA Fran worked as an X-ray technician until she chose to become a full-time mom. Fran married Louis Francis Deckers Jr. on Feb. 13, 1954, in Santa Monica Calif. They raised their children in Wilmington, Del., and retired to Maine, where several of their children had already made their homes. Fran and Louis enjoyed 23 fulfilling years in Winterport. Both had been active members in St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Winterport.
Fran was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Louis Francis Deckers Jr.; and her brother, Ted Frembgen. She is survived by her sister, Margie Christensen and husband, Harold Christensen; and her 12 children, Catherine, Mary, Philip, Paul, Mark, Thomas, Stephen, Richard, Theresa, John, Matthew, Ann Marie; and 29 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Main Street, Winterport. Interment will be immediately after the Mass at Tannery Loop Cemetery, Amherst. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary Frances Deckers’ memory to St. Joseph Hospice, St Joseph Healthcare Park, 900 Broadway, Bangor, ME 04401.
