CHARLESTON — Mary E. Strawn, 92, died Dec. 2, 2013, at a nursing home in Dover-Foxcroft. She was born Aug. 9, 1921, in Roosevelt, Utah, the daughter of Joseph and Minnie (Hunting) Tromley.
She was the seventh of 11 children. Her family moved to Connecticut and she went to work at Pratt Whitney, where she met William Haas. They were married in 1942 and raised three children. In 1955, they moved to Maine and William passed away shortly after that. She then met Willard “Bert” Strawn. They married in 1967 and moved to Virginia and lived there for 30 years. In 1997, she and Bert relocated to Franklin and resided there until Bert’s death in 2011. Mary had just moved to Charleston eight months ago to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
Mary is survived by her son, William Haas and his wife, Sunday, of Orrington; two daughters, Darlyne McManus of Methuen, Mass., and Doris Edes and her husband, William, of Charleston; eight grandchildren, Wayne Dow, Cathy Pierce and her husband, Paul, Gloria Sutliffe and her husband, Steve, Gary Moore and his wife, Patricia, Tammy Moore Tong and her husband, Andy, Eric Haas and his wife, Debbie, Tony Haas and his wife, Lisa, and Chris Haas and his wife, Jenna; and 16 great-grandchildren, Amanda, Lucas, Casey, Taya, Jayda, Alexandra, Andeson, Derek, Drew, Bailey, Breeanna, Wayne Jr., Jennifer, William, Christopher and Jonathon. She is also survived by her brother, Lewis Tromley of California; and sister, Lara Foreman of Connecticut; brother-in-law, Charles Strawn of California; and her good friend, Peg Bunker. She was predeceased by her first husband, William Haas; and her second husband Willard Strawn. The family would like to thank the staff at Mayo Regional and Hibbard’s Nursing Home for the excellent care she received in the short time she was there.
