BLUE HILL — Marjorie McGraw Woodward, 87, died Nov. 21, 2010, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Ellsworth, after a short illness. She was born March 14, 1923, in Surry, the next to youngest of 10 children of Samuel A. and Florence L. (Wood) McGraw.
Marjorie attended school in Surry, Ellsworth and East Blue Hill and graduated from George Stevens Academy, Blue Hill, in 1940. During the war she worked as secretary/bookkeeper for Webbers Cove Boatyard and Maine Boatyard in Ellsworth, where she met her husband, Paul B. Woodward. They were married in 1943 and raised four children, Samuel, Suzanne, Jon and Thomas. Marjorie worked as dental assistant to Dr. Henry Woodbrey, Blue Hill, for 14 years then as bookkeeper at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital for 18 years, retiring in 1989. She and her husband worked together as real estate brokers after his retirement in 1976. She was predeceased by him in 1982. She was a lifelong member of the Blue Hill Baptist Church, singing in the choir from the age of 14. She taught classes in the South Blue Hill Bible Study Group and received service awards from the Baptist Church and North Blue Hill Grange. Marjorie will be remembered for her strong faith, her love for her immediate and extended families and her charity toward many.
She is survived by her children, Samuel Woodward and wife, Carolyn Bower, of Surry, Suzanne Fenders and husband, Henry, of Blue Hill, Jon Woodward and wife, Sandra, of Sedgwick and Thomas Woodward and wife, Joanne, of Sherman Mills; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at the Blue Hill Baptist Church, Pleasant Street, Blue Hill, with a memorial service to follow.
