Marie C. Martin


Marie C. Martin, 87, died May 7, 2009, at a Bangor health-care facility. She was born Sept. 1, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Amable J. and Clara H. (Lohr) Gareau.

Marie married Joseph G. Martin in February 1941 and was an Army wife until 1947. Joe came home from overseas at the end of WWII and upon discharge, moved his family from New York City to Bellmore, Long Island, where they lived for almost 30 years. When Joe died in 1974, Marie moved to Stuart, Fla., to be near friends who had retired there. In 2003, Marie decided to move to Maine in order to be with her family. She was always active in community service organizations and as a Republican office volunteer.

She is survived by her daughters, Judith A. Losquadro and husband, Joseph, of Trenton and Roxanne M. Murray and husband, Kenneth, of New York; sons, Raymond J. Martin and wife, Joan, of Leesburg, Fla., and Joseph L. Martin and wife, Sue, of Boerne, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; sisters, Joan Johnson, of Hawley, Pa., and Claire Weill of Arizona.

A Mass of Christian burial was prayed May 11, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 231 Main St., Ellsworth, with Father Scott Mower, celebrant. Interment was at Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y. Contributions in Marie’s memory may be made to Faith in Action, P.O. Box 5072, Ellsworth, ME 04605.
