TRENTON — Marie C. Martin, 87, died May 7, 2009 at a Bangor health care facility. She was born Sept. 1, 1921 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Amable J. and Clara H. (Lohr) Gareau. Marie married Joseph G. Martin in February of 1941 and was an Army wife until 1947. Joe came home from overseas at the end of World War II and upon discharge, moved his family from New York City to Bellmore, Long Island where they lived for almost 30 years. When Joe died in 1974, Marie moved to Stuart, Fla. to be near friends who had retired there. In 2003 she decided to move to Maine in order to be with her family. She was always active in community service organizations and as a Republican office volunteer.
She is survived by her daughters Judith A. Losquadro and her husband Joseph of Trenton, and Roxanne M. Murray and her husband Kenneth of New York; sons Raymond J. Martin and his wife Joan of Leesburg, Fla. and Joseph L. Martin and his wife Sue of Boerne, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters Joan Johnson of Hawley, Penn. and Claire Weill of Ariz. A Mass of Christian burial was May 11, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellsworth, with Father Scott Mower as celebrant. Interment will be at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, N.Y.
