Margaret “Peggy” Clair Hagerthy

BAR HARBOR — Margaret “Peggy” Clair Hagerthy, 84, died March 31, 2010 at an MDI hospital. She was born May 29, 1925 in Orland, the daughter of Samuel A. and Marion S. (Snowman) Holway. Peggy lived in Otter Creek for many years.


She had a 35-year career at the First National Bank of Bar Harbor. In her spare time one of her favorite loves was gardening. She had both flower and vegetable gardens. After moving to Bar Harbor she continued to have flowers in window boxes and containers on her deck. She was an active member of the United Church of Christ of Northeast Harbor and Seal Harbor.

Peggy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce McFarland and Jim of Bar Harbor; grandchildren, Michael McFarland, Sarah McEachern and her husband Matt, and Bethany Reece and her husband Mat; great-grandchildren Ashley and Lindsey McEachern, Gabriel McFarland and Calie Reece.

She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Maynard Hagerthy in 1991; three sisters, Doris McNally, Pauline Potter and Virginia Applebee; three brothers, Paul and Samuel Holway and Leland Leach.

Funeral services were on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Jordan-Fernald in Mount Desert with Reverend William M. Bigelow, Jr. officiating. Interment will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Ledgelawn Cemetery in Bar Harbor.
