NEW PORT RICHEY, FLA.
Joseph Warren Jones, 92, of New Port Richey, Fla., went Home to the Lord on Aug. 7, 2018, joining his wife, Lois, who passed in 2014. He was born in Westville, N.J., on Dec. 22, 1925, the youngest of five children of Samuel P. and Anna Kirkpatrick Jones. Joe attended Woodbury High School, graduated from Gloucester (N.J.) High School in 1943 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving his country in the Pacific until 1946. He and Lois Elaine Budd were married in 1948 and are survived by three children: Jeffrey and wife, Jeanne, of Ellsworth; Gregory, and wife, Joyce, of Kennedyville, Md.; Wendy and husband, Davis Varner, of Odessa, Fla.; six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jesse, Joseph, Joe-Heinz, Victoria and Nichol; and nine great-grandchildren.
After the war, Joe worked for NJ Bell Telephone for several years, and eventually went into the insurance business with Lois’s father, retiring as president of the Storrie, Budd and Jones Agency more than 30 years later. Joe and Lois raised their children in Woodbury Heights, N.J., and eventually retired to Tarpon Springs and New Port Richey, Fla.
Joe Jones will be remembered as a devout Christian and member of Southwood Baptist Church, where he served as treasurer, trustee and in many other capacities, as a loving father and great role model, and as a fantastic Pop-Pop who could always be counted on to break out the ice cream if given even the slightest excuse.
A local memorial service was held at Arbor Terrace in Citrus Park, Fla., where Joe had many friends among fellow residents and the excellent, caring staff. The family will gather in Florida to remember Joe and Lois on Feb. 14, 2019, the 71st anniversary of their wedding. Gifts in Joe’s memory may be made to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital Foundation, Ellsworth, ME 04605, or to the donor’s favorite charity.
