John W. Berry

Jaffrey, N.H.

It is with great sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of John W. Berry of Jaffrey, N.H., on Dec. 26, 2021, with his loving wife, Laura, by his side.

John began his journey Oct. 9, 1954, in Springfield, Mass. He was the son of Francis and Eleanor (Goodwin) Berry. He grew up in Franklin and graduated from Sumner Memorial High School in Sullivan. John then enlisted in the United States Army and completed his basic training at Fort Dix in New Jersey and was then assigned to the 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, Ky.

It was in New Hampshire where he met the love of his life and best friend, Laura (Frost) Berry. They married on June 24, 1989, and made Jaffrey their home, where they raised their two wonderful daughters, Brianna and Kayla. They were “his girls” and his whole world. He was later blessed in 2017 with his twin granddaughters, who also became the holders of his heart.

John found great happiness in sports. He enjoyed playing basketball, cross-country and excelled in baseball by pursuing his dream and playing Triple-A ball in Kentucky. Outside of sports he enjoyed woodworking, camping, traveling with his family and any and all gatherings.

Locals will remember John as the owner of Wen-Sco Wheels or “The Skate Guy” but more importantly he will be remembered for his laughter, his love for fun and his entertaining dancing. His welcoming personality made kids and adults alike feel like a part of his family. There was always an open chair at his table.

John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 32 years, Laura Berry of Jaffrey, N.H; daughters Brianna (Brian) Thibeault of New Ipswich, N.H., and Kayla (Ramone) Terrelonge of Somersworth, N.H.; his beautiful granddaughters Aria and Addison Thibeault of New Ipswich, N.H.; sisters; Diane (John) Glinko of Franklin, Frances Lettinger of Gouldsboro; and brother Lee (Barbara) Berry of Franklin. He will also be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family, longtime Army buddy Tunce, family friend Tim, his sister by love Ellie, his beloved dog Charlie and many more.

He was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Eleanor Berry, and his brothers Wayne and Robert Berry.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Cournoyer Funeral Home, 33 River St. (Route 202), Jaffrey, NH 03452. The funeral service will immediately follow calling hours at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent in John’s name to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 28 West 44th St., Suite 609, New York, NY 10036, or to the Jaffrey Parks and Recreation Dept, 31 Howard Hill Road, Jaffrey, NH 03452.
