Jamie Cross

Jamie Cross, born on March 17, 1971, at Bangor, beloved son of Robert Cross (deceased) and Anna M. Burpee, died on Oct. 25, 2021, at the Brewer Rehab facility in Brewer. Jamie died peacefully in his sleep from heart failure that was precipitated by his recovery efforts from drug addiction and a paralyzing stroke suffered in September 2020. Jamie’s struggle with opioid addiction was complicated by ongoing pain management efforts associated with his chronic diabetes and several amputations culminating with his right leg being amputated below his knee.

Jamie received most of his education through the school of hard knocks. He attended schools in Bucksport, where the system did not serve his needs, and at 15 years of age Jamie started his career in the restaurant industry at Pete & Cindy’s Restaurant in Bucksport. He continued this career working in restaurants in Maine, Arizona and South Carolina. He particularly enjoyed playing golf and was competitive in everything he tried. He also enjoyed reading, sports and history, and his recall of facts and statistics was amazing. His mantra was “some is good, and more is better.” Jamie’s special enjoyment was “going to camp” fishing and cooking for Rick and whoever else happened to be there. Cooking was his passion at work and at home. Jamie eventually fulfilled his dream of becoming an accomplished chef. From a very early age Jamie was an advocate for the underdog. At the Brewer Rehab, Jamie was referred to as “the light.”

Jamie is survived by his loving mother, Anna M. Burpee, and her partner Michael Reynolds of Bucksport, his paternal grandparents, Harold and Alice Cross, of Hilton Head, S.C., and most importantly by his daughter, the love of his life, Sage Cross Renault of Northeast Harbor. Also, a loving family of aunts, uncles and cousins and many special friends.

Jamie’s family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Jamie’s name and sent to the attention of “Dawn” to Brewer Center for Health & Rehabilitation, 74 Parkway South, Brewer, ME 04412.

Special thanks to the Brewer Rehab facility and its fine staff for the care and therapy Jamie received over the last few months. And to Riposta Funeral Home and Direct Cremations of Maine for the respectful and timely handling of the final arrangements.

A celebration of Jamie’s life will be held in the spring or early summer of 2022.

Know when to pay your respects.
