Henry J. Winn



LYNNFIELD, MASS. and SOUTHWEST HARBOR Henry J. Winn, 87, of Lynnfield, Mass., and Southwest Harbor died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, July 11, 2014. Born in Lowell, Mass., March 2, 1927, he was the son of the late Henry J. Winn and Frances (Scanlon) Winn.

Dr. Winn graduated from Keith Academy in Lowell, Mass., in 1944 and received his Ph.D. from Ohio State University in 1953. He retired in 2012 from the faculty of Harvard Medical School in Boston.

Dr. Winn was a resident of Bar Harbor and a staff scientist at the Jackson Lab from 1955 to 1965. After returning to the Boston area, he and his family continued to enjoy vacations and holiday gatherings in Southwest Harbor. Dr. Winn was a member of the Kebo Valley Golf Club and the Causeway Club in Southwest Harbor. He and his wife were supporters of the Acadia Repertory Theatre in Somesville.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Suzanne (Stanton) Winn; his six children, Dan Winn and his wife, Wendy, Matthew Winn, Alice Winn and her husband, Tom Miller, Sheila Barnes and her husband, Tim, Jennifer Winn and her husband, Andrew Smedira, and Kate Winn. He is also survived by six grandchildren.
