George R. Stevenson

Franklin

George R. Stevenson, 65, died as a result of a tragic fall on July 2, 2021. He was born in Winterville, June 21, 1956, the son of James and Madeline (Goslin) Stevenson.

He grew up in Winterville and graduated from Fort Kent High School in 1975. He then moved to Presque Isle, where he met his wife of 40 years, Laura Shaw. They spent the next 40 years living life to its fullest and raising their family, which he was very proud of.

George had two long careers; he worked at MPG in Presque Isle for many years and then moved his family to the coast of Maine, where he worked the next 25 years in the propane business. He started with Amerigas and ended his career with Dead River Co. He retired just weeks before his tragic accident. His favorite job by far was being a “Papa” to his little K. He had such a zest for life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. You could always find him in his tree stands or boat.

He is survived by his wife, Laura; son, Mike Stevenson, of Ellsworth; daughter, Katie Wixon (John), and the apple of his eye, granddaughter Kahlan; also two boys he considered to be sons, Matt Wycoff and Ernie Bishop; siblings, Pat Crane (Rick), Jake Stevenson (JoAnne), Helen Morrow (Maurice), Theresa Stevenson, John Stevenson (Sylvia), Karen Dube (Mike), David Stevenson, Michael Stevenson (Anna); many nieces and nephews; a very special neighbor, Donald Smallidge, and he will be missed by his dogs, Maggie and Chloe. He was predeceased by brother, Andrew, and sisters, Adeline and Rachel.

There will be no service at this time. The family is planning a celebration of life, Oct. 2, 2021, from 1-3 p.m. at the Franklin Veterans Club. Details of a memorial fund will be available at his celebration of life.

Arrangements by Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth.
