George R. Lambert Jr

BAR HARBOR — George R. Lambert Jr., 89, died in Bar Harbor, on Oct. 22, 2011. He was born in Bar Harbor on April 10, 1922, the son of George R. and Susan F. (McSorley) Lambert, Sr.

He graduated from Bar Harbor High School as part of the class of 1942, and he served in U.S. Army during World War II as tech sergeant, with Cannon Co., 389th Infantry Regiment and section chief in the European Theater. He was among the first soldiers to receive the “Expert Infantryman” badge. He was a 100th Century Division Ranger.

George worked for the Bar Harbor Water Company for many years, retiring as superintendent in 1987. He was a captain with the fire department, and served on the town council; was a Rotarian and a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. George enjoyed time spent with his family and friends at his cottage on Long Pond.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Claire; sons George R. Lambert III of Bar Harbor, Jeffrey F. Lambert and his wife Denise of Spokane, Wash.; daughters Melissa Sue Anderson of Cape Elizabeth and Leslie Jean Lambert of Stonington; sister Sadie Cunningham and sister-in-law Barbara Lambert, both of Bar Harbor; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, James Lambert; brother-in-law Ralph (Joe) Cunningham; and niece Diane (Cunningham) Nadeau.

A graveside service with military honors is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011 at Ledgelawn Cemetery in Bar Harbor.
