Gary L. Garnett

OTIS—Gary L. Garnett, 59, passed away Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born March 3, 1950. He is the son of Rosalie Garnett Fraser.


He graduated from Narraguagus High School in 1968. Gary proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine in the Vietnam War. Shortly after returning to the States, Gary began working for the Maine State Department of Transportation Bridge Maintenance Division. Later becoming supervisor, he continued to work there for 37 years. Gary enjoyed his work and loved all of his co-workers. He met many, many friends along the way. Gary loved to camp, ice fish and hunt with close friend, Jim Hardison, and met many new friends during those trips. Gary loved the Celtics and the Patriots and especially the Red Sox. He enjoyed his annual Red Sox trip with son, Rob Kane. He favored walks to the lake with his grandchildren.

Gary is survived by his mother, Rosalie; his loving wife, Marilyn; and her father, Sam. Gary is missed by his children, Staci, Rob, Melissa and their spouses. He is sadly missed by his siblings, Cathy and her husband, Russell, David and wife, Lori, Sharon and wife, Michelle, Pamela and husband, Byron. He will also be sadly missed by his wife’s siblings, Alice, Amy, Colwell, Lorenzo, Joseph, Ryan, Lorilee, Alan, Kathy, Rosanne, Bobby and their spouses and children. His grandchildren will remember Gary as “Poppy” and they are Tommy, Adam, Luke, Autumn, Nicholas, Emerald, Clayton and Amethyst. He’s adored by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Gary was predeceased by two brothers, Ronnie and Wayne; his grandparents; and mother-in-law, Naomi.

No funeral arrangements have been made, however there will be a huge celebration of Gary’s life announced in the near future. Gary will be laid to rest in the spring beside his brothers. A service of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Ellsworth. Donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society, the SPCA of Trenton and New Hope Hospice of Eddington.
