Farrell E. Pettegrow, 85, died March 4, 2009, at an Ellsworth health facility. He was born in Machiasport, the son of Edwin and Nellie (Copp) Pettegrow.
He attended local schools and in 1943 joined the Navy, where he served in the Pacific on a destroyer. After returning home in 1946 he attended the Maine Vocational School in Augusta, met and married his wife of 61 years, Dorothy (Dolliver). Later he and his family moved to Bristol, Conn., where he was employed as a machinist by Pratt and Whitney in Southington. Conn., for 30 years. He was a member of the Bristol Fish and Game Club and a former member of the Prospect Methodist Church in Bristol. After his retirement he and Dorothy returned to Maine, where they have resided for the past 21 years.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; a son, Robert and his wife, Elaine, of Isle La Motte, Vt.; a daughter, Barbara and son-in-law, Gary Parr, of East Berlin, Conn.; five grandchildren, Kimberly and companion, Scott, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Kevin Pettegrow of Bristol, Conn., Devon Boardman of Bristol, Conn., Amber and Bonnie Parr of East Berlin, Conn.; a brother-in-law, Dan Dolliver and wife, Hiromi, of South Portland; and a sister-in-law, Rose Tilden, of Bernard; also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Dorothy; and brother-in-law, Philip Thaxter, of Addison.
A private memorial service will be held later at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Parkinson Foundation or the American Lung Association.
