Everett William Blanchard

OBIT-BlanchardNORTHEAST HARBOR—Bill “Bamp” Blanchard, 72, died April 13, 2015, at MDI Hospital with his children, Todd, Stacie and Janine, by his side. He was born Sept. 26, 1942, in Bar Harbor, the son of Maynard D. and Muriel (Bagley) Blanchard.

Bill graduated from high school in Northeast Harbor in 1960 and entered into the workforce as a mechanic for Haynes Garage in Northeast Harbor, where he worked for over two decades. He and his wife, Roselle (Maddocks), were married in 1963 and soon started their family. In the 1980s, Bill traded four wheels for 18, taking a job as a long-haul truck driver for R.E. Billings Inc. He spent the next several years crisscrossing the country, often taking along his then-toddler grandson, Bryce, even potty training him on the road. Bill’s final career began over 20 years ago as the property manager for Dr. and Mrs. James Murphy of Seal Harbor, for whom he was more than just an employee; he became family.

Bill’s lifelong love of cars, both driving and building, is legendary. But ultimately, his true passions were his family and friends, to whom he was loyal, loving and beyond generous. There was nothing he would not do or give for those he loved. Bill will forever be remembered as a man who achieved greatness in everything he set out to do.

Bill is survived by his sister, Rosemary Brady, and husband, John, of Illinois, brothers Terry and wife, Emma, Dennis and wife, Pauline, and David and wife, Meg, all from Mount Desert, as well as several nieces and nephews; his children, son Todd and wife, Pam, of Ellsworth, daughters Stacie Wilson and fiancé, Chris, of Lamoine, Janine and longtime boyfriend, Heath, of Southwest Harbor; stepchildren, Robert Dorr and wife, Vida, Theresa (Teri) Dorr-Fox, both of Florida, and their extended families; his beloved grandchildren, Bryce, Kayla, Zachary, Melissa, MacKenzie, and the newest love of his life, great-granddaughter, Emma Beth, who made him smile to the very end. He is also survived by his dear friend, Dan DeLong.

Bill is predeceased by both his parents, wife Roselle, sister Diane, his employer Dr. Murphy, and his very special friends, Steve Grindle and Arthur “Artie” Abbott.

At Bill’s request, there will be no formal service, but all who love him are invited to join his family in a celebration BBQ at his brother David’s home on Beech Hill in Somesville the afternoon of July 12. In lieu of flowers, please make gifts in “Bamp’s” memory to American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Hospice of Hancock County or your favorite charity.
