Evelyn A. DeGiosafatto

ELLSWORTH

Evelyn A. DeGiosafatto, 86, went peacefully home to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on April 16, 2020, surrounded by her loving children.

Evelyn was born on Oct. 9, 1933, in Plainfield, N.J., and graduated from North Plainfield High School. After graduation, she went on to become a secretary for Doris Duke. Later, she worked as a unit clerk in Greenbrook Regional Hospital. In 1974, she and her husband, Peter, moved their family to Ellsworth to purchase the Big Chicken Barn, where they grew chickens for Maplewood. After their move to Maine, Evelyn worked for Beal’s Oil, Merrill Bank and Fleet Bank in Bucksport and Maine Savings Bank in Ellsworth. In retirement, Evelyn and her husband wintered in Zephyrhills, Fla., with their lifelong friends Pat and Joe Blanyar, and summered at their beloved camp on Branch Lake in Ellsworth.

Evelyn was involved in many different groups, clubs and activities. These included the Brownies, the Girl Scouts and TOPS of Maine. She was a catechism teacher at St. Joseph’s Church and taught there for several years. She also sang in the church choir. Evelyn loved to bowl with her husband in leagues and for fun. Knitting was also a hobby she greatly enjoyed. One of her favorite pastimes was playing pinochle with her close friends and family members. She was an avid reader, and she had several favorite authors, including Stephen King.

Evelyn was loved by all who knew her for her beautiful smile and loving spirit. She was kind-hearted, generous and always saw the good in people. Spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family was her greatest joy. She was very proud of them all.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Cynthia Nemeth of Ellsworth, Lisa Lewis and her husband, Fred, of Ellsworth, Peter DeGiosafatto Jr. and wife, Melanie, of Ellsworth, Joann McBride and husband, Doug, of Douglasville, Ga., 12 grandchildren, Michaline Danico-Hinkel, Sarah Rajan, Christopher Lewis, Greg Lewis, Michael Nemeth, Jessica Card, Jackie Manning, Johnathan Lewis, Isaac Lewis, Jonathan DeGiosafatto, Brandon Stubbs, and Brittney Stubbs, 18 great-grandchildren, eight fur grandbabies, including the famous mule, Jolene, and many close and loving extended family members in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Peter DeGiosafatto Sr., her niece Jean Marks of Forks Township, Pa., her sisters Margaret Secero and Dorothy Keiderling, her brother Everett Ackerman Jr. and her parents, Everett and Margaret Ackerman.

A memorial service will be held by the family as soon as gatherings are allowed.
