Erdine Marie McAlpine left us with many family members surrounding her on Aug. 13 to start her heavenly journey.
Born on April 11, 1934, to James and Norma (Spurling) Moon, she was the oldest of seven. She attended Ellsworth schools, graduating in 1952. She was employed by the textile mill and Ames Department Store in Ellsworth.
She belonged to the Surry Grange along with Castine and Bucksport. She was a deputy of the State Grange for two years. A favorite place in memory is Mast Head Campground, where many a potluck supper was enjoyed for her beans and biscuits.
But her best job was mom and Nana.
Surviving are her sons, Royce (Carol) of Eastbrook, Wayne (Betsy) of Ellsworth, Dwayne (Ellie) of Waltham and Bruce (June) of Ellsworth. Her brother Wayne (Jean) Moon and sister Cynthia (Larry) Tassinari and sister-in-law Ann Moon. She leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. Plus many step-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins in Minnesota. Also her significant other John Ellingwood of Frankfort, in which she enjoyed the last 12 years in music, dance and Grange activities.
